Summary

866-OUR-VOTE is a national nonpartisan election hotline administered by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. It supports all Americans with guidance at any stage of voting, from registration and early voting to casting a ballot at the polls and overcoming participation obstacles. Throughout the election cycle, trained volunteers provide voters with information, document any problems they encounter, and work with partners and volunteers on the ground to identify and remove barriers to voting.

To prepare for what was expected to be an unprecedented number of voter questions and concerns during the 2020 election cycle, Impactual worked with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to create a simpler, streamlined 866-OUR-VOTE landing page. We supported the longstanding program to develop capacity for the increased traffic brought about by a highly contentious election and having to vote during a pandemic. Between constantly shifting election rules and COVID-19, our goal was to design a website that could be shared with the Lawyer’s Committees’ numerous partners and act as a reliable source for election information and inquiries. We set out with specific improvements in mind aimed at maximum accessibility via ADA Website Compliance, multi-language translation, and updated chat integration features. After generating content sitemaps and high-fidelity wireframes, we worked directly with a development firm to implement the new website.

Our team project-managed the process to ensure timely milestones were achieved and all feedback and edits from the Lawyers’ Committee were addressed. The result was a fully mobile, responsive website that expanded technology and staff capacity. In addition to optimized accessibility and a multilingual widget with 12 languages, we worked with the development firm to incorporate a mobile-friendly click-to-call widget and integrate a new online chat function.
